Health support services

Who are we?

We are a team of Educational Psychologists who have an extensive knowledge of child development, learning, behaviour and emotional / mental health needs. We are Practitioner Psychologists who are required to be registered by the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and we follow British Psychological Society (BPS) best practice guidelines. Within our Team we have a range of specialist interests including person centred approaches; training ELSA's (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant), Emotion Coaching, supervision, therapeutic working and family therapy.

What do we do?

Educational Psychologists provide a psychological perspective regarding the education and welfare of children and young people aged 0 – 25 years and their families. Our ambition is to transform lives with psychology by making positive change possible. The Hull City Psychological Service is fully committed to delivering the highest quality service at all times to all client groups.

Hull City Psychological Service delivers a core offer as outlined below. This core offer is ‘free’ to those receiving the service and is commissioned and paid for by Hull City Council (HCC) to fulfil its statutory duties in relation to children and young people with Special Educational Need and Disability (SEND).

Educational Psychologists also take part in early prevention and intervention work and offer a wide range of therapeutic support models that promote mental health and emotional well-being for children and adults. Schools / settings can commission Educational Psychology services as part of the traded Schools Offer to work on identified issues and deliver expert solutions.

The Humber Sensory Processing Service is a specialist service providing support to children who have sensory processing difficulties. This service is for children with a Hull or East Riding GP. The Sensory Processing Service is a small team of sensory trained therapists. The therapists provide advice and formal sensory processing assessments (criteria requirement for formal assessment).

The service also hosts this website and provides training about sensory processing difficulties. Referrals for the service are to be completed by qualified health and social care professionals and Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators (SENCos).  The referral form is available on this website,  on the Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust website or on the Local Offer page. The service operates Monday to Friday 9-5.
