Northcott ASD Outreach Service

The Northcott ASD Outreach Service provides autism-specific support to pupils and staff in mainstream schools. The ASD Service's support is given in various forms:

  • Consultation, offering advice to staff
  • Classroom observations
  • Staff training for teachers and teaching assistants
  • Attend reviews, offering expertise in relation to specific strategies relating to autism
  • Support in establishing and reviewing individual learning plans (in conjunction with parents and school staff)
  • Individual and small group support for specific pieces of work
  • Support and advice relating to social skills and personal development
  • Support at times of transition
  • Delivery of parent support programmes such as Exploring Autism, Early Bird, Early Bird + and Cygnet
  • Close work and liaison with autism specific Speech and Language Therapists

Schools can make a referral to the service after discussions with Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists and parents. A referral form is completed and then the Service will carry out an observation. It is after this initial observation that the outreach team agrees the level of support the school requires.
