Speech and Language Therapy (SALT)

We are an experienced team of speech and language therapists and assistants providing specialist and mainstream services to children with speech, language and communication difficulties.

The speech and language therapy service supports children from 0-19 years, helping them to meet their individual goals. We also work with parents and carers, who may be asked to participate in therapy sessions and carry out therapeutic activities at home. 

We provide a range of specialist and mainstream speech and language therapy services, which include children with:

  • Developmental speech and language difficulties
  • Dysphagia (eating and drinking)
  • Social communication difficulties
  • Cleft Palate
  • Dysfluency
  • Hearing impairment
  • Learning difficulties
  • Physical disabilities
  • Pre-school children with complex needs

The Language Unit provides specialist support for children aged between three – 11 years with specific speech and / or language impairments.

The Language Unit staff comprises specialist language teachers, teaching assistants, speech and language therapists and a speech and language therapy assistant.

Attendance is for two half day sessions per week in groups of a maximum size of eight children. Sessions offer both small group and 1 -1 work. Teachers provide additional support in the child’s educational placement once per fortnight. Transport to / from the Unit can be requested through Hull City Council.
