Curriculum Offer:

At our resource-based provision, we provide a comprehensive curriculum tailored to meet the unique needs of each student.

Within a supportive peer group environment, students receive guidance from a team including a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf, Specialist Teaching Assistant, and Deaf Instructor. Weekly British Sign Language (BSL) instruction is supplemented by family BSL sessions, ensuring a strong foundation in communication.

Speech and Language Therapy sessions are offered weekly with follow-ups as needed. Our curriculum delivery emphasises Total Communication, incorporating both BSL and Sign Supported English, and is adapted to suit each child's language proficiency.

Specialised instruction occurs in our Resource Base, with additional support integrated into mainstream lessons. Our learning environment utilises, Sign Graphics to enhance understanding, and mainstream staff receive Deaf Awareness training to facilitate inclusivity. We prioritise supporting deaf identity and developing Theory of Mind skills. Audiological management and training are provided, with coordination with auditory implant programs for further support.

Communication with families is maintained through various channels including home/schoolbooks, phone calls, texts, relay service messaging, emails, video calls, and learning logs, ensuring a collaborative approach to each student's education.

Environment:

Our provision is situated within the Year 3/4 pod of our school, offering a dedicated learning space for our students.

The setting is designed to optimise learning conditions, with features such as blinds and carpets that help improve acoustics, creating a conducive environment for communication. Additionally, the provision is equipped with modern amenities including computers and whiteboards, facilitating interactive and engaging lessons tailored to the needs of our children.

Moreover, the presence of a learning balcony enhances the flexibility of the space, providing opportunities for varied instructional approaches and collaborative activities. Overall, our provision is carefully crafted to support the academic and social development of our students within a welcoming and accessible setting.
